Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer lavished praise on Hardik Pandya comparing his captaincy to that of India’s best-known captain MS Dhoni. Pandya was initially ridiculed when he became the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) captain. However, in 2022, the team won the Indian Premier League trophy.
GT has won six out of eight matches so far this year. They started the season with a win against Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Gavaskar noted that Pandya continues to impress with his leadership abilities, and that his specialty is not imposing his personality on the entire team. This is helping players a great deal.
Sometimes captains will try to maintain the same personality as the team. The personalities of the captain and team may differ. Hardik does not try to impose himself on the team. Hardik does that with GT. It will be his legacy. Gavaskar stated that he is very similar to MS Dhoni as a captain, and has inherited the positive qualities of his former India skipper.
Hardik Pandya praises Ashish Nehra for helping him grow
Pandya often praises GT head coach Ashish Niehra for his help in helping him develop as a captain. He revealed recently that, despite being two different people, they both have the same approach to the sport and this has helped him.
Ashish Nehra (Ashu bhai) has played a crucial role in my development. We are crazy people. Our game sense may be different, but we are all the same. “He has guided me very well,” Pandya stated in an interview with Robin Uthappa, on Jio Cinema.
While this was happening, GT took on Kolkata Knight Riders and won by seven wickets.
